10 TIPS for using shared washrooms like a PRO

WHEN NATURE CALLS, THERE’S NO VOICEMAIL!

If you need to ‘GO’ then you should go! Forcibly stopping bodily functions may result in bigger damage to your body and overall health.

Whether you live in shared accommodation or you are travelling – using a shared washroom is not unusual at all! Everyone does it whenever they need and there is nothing to be embarrassed about. So, rather than avoiding going to the washroom, you should be “PREPARED” to go!

You can’t control who goes before you or after you!

This is the truth of shared washrooms…

So, the next time you need to use one, all you can do is ‘BE READY’! Here are 10 tips for using a shared washroom – any shared washroom like a PRO…

 1.      Plan for a minimum time in washroom

Be sure that the microbes and bad odour both are floating in the air. The more time you spend in there, the more you have chance of catching something unnecessary.

 2.      Wait for at least 2 min after someone

Rather than using washroom back-to-back, give it a gap of at least 2 minutes so that the airborne particles settle down and funky odours naturally fade away a little bit.

 3.      Check if the flush is working properly

You don’t want to get a bitter surprise after you are done with the business. Just press the small flush button to see if it’s working and not wasting so much water at the same time.

 4.      Check for water supply before going

The water jet or tap and a bucket, whatever way it works, just be sure that the water supply is on. These are the things that you don’t want to risk while using a shared toilet.

 5.      Check for tissue paper’s availability

See if the existing roll of tissue paper is sufficient. If not, get a backup roll of tissue paper ready with you. A little extra won’t hurt but in case you need more, it will be handy.

 6.      Sanitize the toilet seat with disinfectant

There are disinfectant sprays available in the market. You can also opt for a wet wipe. But the toilet seat comes in direct contact with the body so make sure it is sanitized.

 7.      Avoid touching other common objects

Toiletries, walls, faucets, sink, mirror, etc. can be a carrier of anything. To avoid contact with germs, toxic chemicals or dirt – the best solution is not touching many things.

8.      Use before-you-go toilet spray 5 times

The biggest issue is bad odour before you go and after you go. Both can be solved by using a toilet spray 5 times over toilet water. It will trap odours whenever you drop the dookie.

 9.      Cover up sounds by filling up a bucket

This is one of the oldest tricks in the book. If you are expecting explosions, put an empty bucket for filling under the tap. The sound will at least cover up some noise.

 10.  Close the toilet seat before flushing

The research says when you flush, a plume of microbes and water droplets rises from the toilet bowl. It may be harmful to your health and nose so better close the toilet seat before flushing.

Shared washrooms can be used even in pandemic situations, with enough precautions and preparations. So, make sure you have all of these requirements checked before you use a shared washroom.
